C1 Passes now granted to Retirees

With the 2022 annual refresh comes the exciting news that for the first time ever, retirees have received C1/J upgrade passes, replacing their C2/J Personal Travel (JSA) upgrade passes.

In alignment with the program for active employees, C1 passes are granted in bundles, with each C1 pass used per passenger, per booking. With an annual allotment of 4 C1 passes, this enables retiree to travel twice a year with their spouse on this priority; for retirees or their spouse to travel on this upgraded priority 4 times per year as a solo traveller; twice per year  with a companion of their choice or for retiree and their spouse to travel once with two companions of their choice. The new C1 passes also have a simplified pricing structure. Please refer to the zonal chart below and note that with your new bundle, the service charges are waived. Now, when you, your spouse or your dependent children (must be accompanied by retiree or spouse), travel on your new C1/J bundle product, only applicable airport fees and taxes will apply.

Service Charges

Also new this year, is the ability to use your C1 bundle passes with travel companion(s) of your choice. No longer are retirees or active employees limited to using their upgrade passes for travel with those family members listed on their profile.

Some examples

1: Retiree and their spouse travelling YUL-CDG-YUL.  This would use 2 C1 passes from the retiree’s bundle, leaving two more for future bookings that year.

2: Retiree, their spouse and two friends travelling YYZ-YVR-SYD-YVR-YYZ.  This would use 4 C1 passes, or the entire allotment from the retiree’s bundle, for that year.

3: Retiree, their spouse and one dependent child travelling YVR-NRT-YVR.  This would use 3 C1 passes, leaving one left for future bookings that same year. Either the retiree or their spouse can use that remaining pass.

A definition of a trip is as follows:

The bundle of 4 C1 passes is refreshed annually to no more than 4 and the maximum number of passengers that can be booked on a single PNR is four (a retirees’ maximum annual allotment).

You cannot combine different priorities on the same booking (example: 2 passengers on C1 and 2 passengers on C2)

Please note, retirees, their spouse and dependent children also maintain unlimited pass travel at a C2 priority! All other rules and conditions of pass travel apply.

We hope that these new C1 passes will bring some joy to you, your spouse, and your travelling partners!
