IATA policy name change on name formatting
Effective immediately, the use of LNU (Last Name Unknown) and XXX is no longer permitted in any booking or passenger profile. All entries for passengers with incomplete names must now follow the FNU (First Name Unknown) format.
This change is essential to ensure compliance with international travel regulations. It applies to all passengers traveling on Air Canada and other airlines on passes.
What’s Changing
Any person’s name that contains either LNU or XXX must now follow these guidelines to be in accordance with IATA’s new guidelines.
Moving forward, when booking travel on ETS or OAL, keep in mind the following:
If you do not have a family name: enter your given name in the family name field, enter FNU in the given name field, followed by a title
-
Example :
- Last name: None
-

- PNR: JOHN/FNU
If you do not have a given name: enter FNU in the given name field, followed by a title.
