Bereavement Travel

Whether it’s the death of a loved one or a life-threatening illness, bereavement travel is designed to help you get where you need to be.

Scope & Eligibility

Applies to active employees of Air Canada (AC), AC Rouge, ACV, and FASCO, as well as their registered spouse, common-law partner, and dependent children.

No minimum service is required.

Rules & Limitations

To be as fair as possible to all employees, bereavement travel is limited with respect to circumstances and eligibility. Please review the table below for eligibility.

The information provided below is pass-specific and complements the rules outlined in the Employee Travel Policy. In other words, the ETP rules still apply unless otherwise stated below.

Rules

Valid for travel on AC, AC Rouge, AC Express.

Valid for active employee’s spouse, common-law partner and dependent children (must be registered on employee’s travel profile).

Children must travel accompanied by the employee and/or spouse.

Employee must obtain manager approval to travel on a bereavement pass.

Travel must be booked within 3 days of manager’s approval.

Valid for a boarding priority of A1/Y00 - Bereavement. Boarding as per employee’s profile.

Valid for a maximum of 2 bereavement trips per calendar year.

Subject to applicable taxes.

No service charges.

Limitations

Not valid for travel on other airlines.

Not valid for retired employee, survivor, employee on leave or their eligible family members.

Not valid for non-dependent registered children. If necessary, they may travel on their regular unaccompanied C5/Y10 priority.

Not permitted to use a bereavement pass without manager’s consent.

Not permitted to use a bereavement pass for leisure/personal travel.

Not valid for travel to attend a future memorial service, even for that of an immediate family member.

Non-compliance

Any disregard of the guidelines presented in this policy will result in disciplinary action, up to and including the termination of employment, as well as the loss of travel privileges for the guilty party and their eligible family members.
