ZED - Personal Travel on Other Airlines
Air Canada has negotiated Zonal Employee Discount (ZED) agreements with other airlines so that our employees can benefit from space-available travel on their flights at a special rate and vice versa. To understand how ZED travel works, please read the following.
Scope & Eligibility
Employees of Air Canada, AC Rouge, AC Vacations, Fasco, and AC Express are eligible to use Air Canada’s ZED program. However, rules may vary according to different ZED agreements and must be consulted separately via the Employee Travel Site (ETS).
To be eligible, employees must have:
- Completed 6 months of active service as a:
- Permanent full-time employee, or;
- Temporary full-time employee, or;
- Permanent part-time employee.
To find out what rules you need to follow for different carriers, please go to the Other Airline Reduced Rate (ZED) Agreements Chart.
Useful Definitions
- Fare differential refund:
- A reimbursement of the difference in cost between two different fares, if applicable. For example, if you booked executive class ticket but travelled in economy due to availability, you may qualify for a refund on the difference in price between the executive class ticket and the economy class ticket.
- myIDTravel:
- This is the online reservation system for participating airlines with ZED agreements. Some airlines cannot be booked via the myIDTravel website, but many can.
- ZED Agreement:
- This refers to the negotiated terms between two airlines. Each airline agreement is unique and the terms can vary greatly.
- Zone Fare:
- A zone fare is an agreed fixed amount (distance related) per segment or ticket coupon issued. Please refer to flyzed.info/XX for general information rules and regulations about ZED travel.
Rules & Limitations
ZED agreements can be fragile. They are easily terminated if employees do not respect the terms agreed to by the participating airlines. Therefore, it is very important that you review the information below to understand what is expected of you when booking ZED travel on another carrier. That will ensure Air Canada’s good standing with other airlines and an ongoing relationship we can all enjoy.
Rules
ZED rules vary by airline and must be respected. It is the employee’s responsibility to inform themselves of the rules imposed by the carrier they wish to travel.
Tickets are valid for 3 months (90 days) from the issue date.
myIDTravel Tickets are issued in the operating carriers currency.
Children age 2 to 11 pay 67% of the applicable adult ZED fare rate.
Infants (under 2) not occupying a seat pay no fare. For international travel, an infant will require a ticket.
- For carriers participating in myIDTravel, the infants of travel partners pay the child fare.
Children under age 16 must be accompanied by an adult traveling with a ZED fare ticket.
Any child travelling alone or with someone other than their parent/legal guardian, must carry a Letter of Travel Consent containing the parent/legal guardian’s:
- Signature
- Address
- Telephone
Limitations
Not valid for refund if the carrier accepts a lower ZED fare than the one ticketed (i.e.: ticket is issued at the price of a high ZED fare, but is used on a carrier that accepts low ZED fares). No refund for price difference.
Rules
Valid exclusively for/with participating carriers of myIDTravel as per negotiated agreement.
Valid for employee, spouse, dependent children age 12 or more, and parent.
- Some carriers may include travel partner
May be valid for a fare differential refund if executive cabin is not available and the employee travels in economy.
Process and policy vary by carrier. Refer to the ID Agreement section of the MyIDTravel website for details.
Limitations
Some carriers will include infants and children under age 12.
Rules
Valid for active employees of AC, AC Rouge, Air Canada Vacation, Fasco, and AC Express.

Procedure
ZED agreements per carrier: To find out what rules you need to follow for different carriers, please go to the Other Airline Reduced Rate (ZED) Agreements Chart
Purchasing ZED tickets: If the carrier you wish to use is a member of myIDTravel you can book tickets by selecting Flights > Other Airlines Ticketing > myIDTravel
For other airlines, please go to the Employee Travel Site > Flights > Other Airlines Ticketing

Checking in for a flight: Flight registration is usually mandatory, but every carrier has a preferred method (i.e.: web, email, phone, etc.). Please check each agreement for the flight registration rules required by each carrier.
Reporting ZED ticket issues: Any questions about your ZED tickets should first be directed to Air Canada. We will do our best to resolve the matter for you. Do not call your credit card company – doing so initiates a “Chargeback” to reverse your payment, which causes Air Canada to incur a substantial handling fee that we will have to pass on to you.
Requesting a refund: Refund procedures vary based on the type of ZED ticket you hold, how far you travelled with it, and where you made the booking.
The following information outlines procedures to follow in specific situations:
